Day 149: Render complete, garage roof on and ktichen goes in

5 04 2013

Day149-3Wow, what a week Our Nolan has had. In addition to the stairs going in, we now have the final layer of render which  includes the colour, a roof on the garage and wait for it…. the kitchen!!! While the kitchen is not quite finished yet, the main cabinets and the island bench were installed today and it looks great. It’s always hard to know if what you choose from the tiny sample pieces will work together so to see everything coming together looking they way we wanted it to is a relief and and real thrill too.

Other items completed included water proofing to the wet areas and phone line connection from the house to the the Telstra pit on the nature strip. Once the weatherboard cladding at the rear is installed (next week) we should be getting close to lock-up completion.

Day 84: We have a roof

30 01 2013

The colorbond roof is now complete and the frame is just about complete.  We can feel another invoice creeping around the corner. We love the colour of the roof – Woodland Grey is a really nice colour. The whirlybird has also been installed. We were able to see it by walking up the street a little as it is at the back of the house. The roof hasn’t been completed at the back part of the house because of the scaffolding but once that has been lowered this will be completed.

Today we booked in the independent building inspection for the Frame Stage for next Wednesday.

Day 79: Fascia and Gutters

25 01 2013

For today’s visit to the site we brought along the 70-200mm lens to get some closer shots of the house.  From what we could see, more of the roof truss has been erected and the first signs of the fascia and gutters being put up.

We also saw some of the material that were delivered to the site today including windows, bi-fold door, and some colorbond panels (for the roof?).

We were pleased with the colours Evening Haze and Woodland Grey for the fascia and gutters respectively, although they are the only colours so far on the house.  For more details of our facade colours see our post Picking a Facade.

Picking a facade

17 02 2012

We have driven to almost all of the Metricon display homes over Melbourne since we started Our Nolan project.  We also drove around to several completed Metricon homes to help us get a feel for the various facades – it’s more real seeing the house in the flesh rather than looking at photos and computer generated images of the facades.

In the end we kept going back to the Plantation facade which also suits the neighborhood characteristics of where our block is situated.

To get an idea of our colour selections for our facade we used Metricon’s Studio M Envisage website (http://www.studiom.com.au/envisage).  While the image below is not quite what the Nolan Plantation facade looks like, it allows us to get a better idea of how our colour selections will work together.

The following image is the facade with details of the colours we have selected.

Here are some photos and pictures of the Plantation facade from various Metricon house designs.  Though some of them are not necessarily the Nolan, it does give you an idea of the look.
